Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival

Meet Adventure Lead at Lisbon airport and check-in to Hotel. Relax and have some Free and Easy time before meeting for a group dinner wrapping off with a ride brief for the following days. Use the remaining time to pack your bags for bike packing and drop off your main luggage and bike bag for storage at the Hotel. Have a good night’s rest.

Day 2 Faro to Tavira

After an early breakfast, prepare your bike and bike pack and take a local train to Faro to begin the day’s ride to Tavira. Enjoy the ride through the Coastal towns peppered with beach resorts. Arriving at Tavira, explore the old castle of Tavira before checking in at the hotel. Relax for the rest of the day and explore Tavira at your own free time. Meet for a group dinner (own expense), exchange experience of the day’s ride and savour the local cuisine known for its wine and the finest of the Mediterranean.

Day 3 Tavira to São Bartolomeu 

Today we Cycle through Barrocal, a region between the coast and the hills of the interior, today a thriving community where many of the region’s traditional crafts are still found. After checking-In at the hotel, take the rest of the afternoon exploring the town and its surroundings. Meet for a group dinner (own expense), exchange experience of the day’s ride and savour the local cuisine known for its wine and the finest of the Mediterranean.

Profile : Rolling. 

Day 4 Monte Branco to Monchique 

After a good local breakfast, continue cycling west through the interior towns checking in on the medieval castle of Silves before heading into Monchique, a town amidst the magnificent nature of Portugal. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon over a spa or explore the surrounding beautiful nature.  Meet for a group dinner (own expense), exchange experience of the day’s ride and savour the local cuisine known for its wine and the finest of the Mediterranean before retiring for a good night’s rest.

Day 5 Monchique to Aljezur

After a fabulous breakfast, continue cycling through the untouched landscape to the western coast of Aljezur, exploring the stunning coast of Palmeirinha and checking in on the castle of Aljezur before checking into the hotel and use the rest of the time exploring the town. Meet for a group dinner (own expense), exchange experience of the day’s ride and savour the local cuisine known for its wine and the finest of the Mediterranean.

Profile : Moderate Hills.

Day 6 Aljezur to Lagos

After a fabulous breakfast, ride the wild west to the Southernmost tip of Sagres checking in on Sagres Fortress before heading east to the walled coastal town of Lagos. After checking into the hotel for the day, use the rest of the time checking out the history of the town at the old town centre. Meet for a group dinner (own expense), exchange experience of the day’s ride and savour the local cuisine known for its wine and the finest of the Mediterranean.

Day 7 Lagos to  Albufeira

After a fabulous breakfast, continue East on the Southern Coast to Albufeira amidst golf and beach resorts of the Algarve region. Arriving in Albufeira and after checking-in to the hotel, use the rest of the time exploring the historical town square soaking in the local culture and trying its local cuisines before meeting for a group dinner (own expense) catching up on the day’s experience.

Day 8 Albufeira to Faro

After a fabulous breakfast, continue East to Faro catching the beautiful fusion of the old and the new Mediterranean architecture along the Atlantic coast. Towards Faro, ride through some quiet outer beach land between the sea and the river before arriving at the day;s destination. After checking-in to the hotel, spend the rest of the time exploring the lively marina. Meet for a group dinner (own expense), exchange experience of the day’s ride and savour the local cuisine known for its wine and the finest of the Mediterranean.

Day 9 Train to Lisbon

After a fabulous breakfast, take a local train back to Lisbon and enjoy the diverse and beautiful scenery of Portugal. Arriving at Lisbon, take a short ride around Expo convention park, trying some local cuisines over lunch (own expense) before checking-in to the hotel. Pick up the bike bags and pack for return. Meet the group for a celebration dinner catching up on the Adventure.

Day 10 Depart Portugal or Extend

Your bike packing adventure concludes after checking out. Official check out time is 11 AM / 12 PM. Proceed for your onward journey.

Important Notes

~ A depositof 30% is required at the time of booking. Deposit paid is non-refundable unless trip is withdrawn or cancelled by Taiji Cycling/Travel Wander.

~ Full or balance payment is 60 days prior to departure.

~ Only book your air ticket to Lisbon when you have been informed to do so.

~ Group size: minimum 6 cyclists, maximum 10 cyclists.

~ Should you require a visa to enter Portugal, it is your responsibility to obtain such document before departure. Check your entry requirement and apply for your visa HERE if you require.

~ For cyclists who are travelling alone and have opted for twin-share occupancy, Taiji Cycling/Travel Wander will do our utmost to pair you with another cyclist of the same gender to share the room. If this is not possible, cyclists are required to top up the difference for a single room. Should you choose not to go on this trip, there is no refund of the deposit paid.

~ Every effort is made to ensure the trip and included experiences take place during the ideal time or period of the year, however certain sights are subject to weather conditions and seasonal variations that are not within the control of Taiji Cycling/Travel Wander. Although you may get to see and/or experience, we cannot guarantee the sightings.

~ Provision of meals during the trip showcases  local authenticity, cuisine and food culture of the places we are visiting. All food allergies and dietary restrictions must be disclosed to Taiji Cycling/Travel Wander at the time of booking. We will use reasonable efforts to accommodate special requirements or requests but this is not always possible given the nature of the destinations visited and availability of options. We cannot guarantee that dietary needs or restrictions can be accommodated. Taiji Cycling/Travel Wander is not liable for failure to accommodate or fulfil such requests. Meal supplementary charges may be imposed to meet your dietary needs.

~ As you prepare for the bike packing adventure, we highly recommend at least 70km of accumulated cycling per week and have completed at least 1 overnighter bike packing adventure with TaiJi Cycling.

~ Our utmost priority is always the safety of the cyclists. Therefore inclusion of the itinerary may be altered due (not limited) to bad weather, local conditions, accommodation book out, the skill levels of the cyclists and/or other unexpected circumstances beyond our control. We reserve the right to make changes necessary and there will be no refund should you decide to discontinue with the trip.

~ As Bike Packing Adventure requires a significant level of cardio and physical exertion, it is not suitable for cyclists with chronic and/or acute disease. Please obtain your doctor’s advice to be fit for the activity before booking. Cyclists must ensure they are medically and physically able to cycle.

~ If the cyclist presents difficulty in completing the day’s ride, we strongly discourage the cyclist from continuing for the day with top priority on the safety of the cyclist and team in mind. Cyclist may require booking a private transfer at the cyclist’s own expense to fast track to the next accommodation. There is no refund on the uncompleted distance of the ride.

~ Cyclist may choose to terminate the ride early during the planned cycling day where possible. Or make it a rest day and fast track to the next accommodation. Cyclist may require to book a private transfer at the cyclist’s own expense. Should the cyclist wish to partake in other activities or sightseeing on the rest day, it will be at the cyclist’s own expense. There is no refund on this portion of the trip.
