Taiji and Cycling

I got asked a lot about the connection between Taiji (太極) and Cycling.

Taiji is commonly known for its slow exercise movements and the Yin and Yang symbol. These are just forms that we can see and touch to associate with. In essense, it is the harmonious integration of our way of life to the fundamental workings of the universe. No words are adequate to describe, except to be experienced and realised. The form and symbol are just one of the manifestation and attemp to explain it. It could be distilled into the 2 elements of Balance and Fluidity in its application to our way of life as well as cycling. There in lies the connection.

There is a saying “Life like Cycling is a continuous Balance”. How true that is ! To stay upright, one has to continuously maintain Balance. The 2nd element is Fluidity. In order to ride safely, every transition to compensate for the continuous change of state in a bike ride has to be executed in a Fluid manner.

Taiji Cycling is therfore a way of cycling that embodies the essence of Taiji in mind and body. Just like Taiji, no words is adequate to describe nor instructions can be written to teach it as it doesn’t takes a definite form, except to be experienced and realised. TaiJiCycling Adventures provides the real world connections that no theories nor mental perceptions nor imaginations through books and classes can bring. The essence of Taiji in Cycling can only be experienced first, then realised.
